POWERFUL and driving folk inspired by the music of European gipsies is coming to Ledbury next month.
The Budapest Cafe Orchestra visit the town’s Market Theatre on Saturday, December 8, comprising four players of violins, guitar, accordion, double bass, sax and balalaika.
They will display the richness and dynamism of Balkan music from 8pm in a wide-ranging programme of Hungarian czardas, Russian folk melodies, dances from Romania and Moldavia and bittersweet Jewish laments.
The orchestra will also present one or two electrifying compositions of their own making along with a few surprises along the way.
It should be a night of music that evokes images of Tzigane fiddle maestros, Budapest café life and gipsy campfires.
Tickets are £13 and £8 for students.
