100 YEARS AGO.

With the object of endeavouring to clear off the debt upon the Holy Trinity Parish Hall, a two days' bazaar was held in the Hall on Wednesday and Thursday. For the first day's ceremony, the organisers were fortunate in securing the services of the Dean of Worcester, who opened the bazaar. The Vicar said he hoped the audience had all come with full pockets and were going away with them empty. Each afternoon Miss Hilda Fitton's Orchestra played selections during tea.

50 YEARS AGO.

A protest against the British Government's decision to carry out a nuclear test in Nevada, which it is suggested "will inevitably provoke mistrust and obstinacy in the Soviet Government" has been sent to the Prime Minister by Malvern CND. In his letter to Mr Macmillan, on behalf of CND, Mr Hugh Ottaway, the chairman, says "at a time when the prospects for a test ban agreement are otherwise more favourable than for many months, this action is grossly irresponsible."

25 YEARS AGO.

Malvern Town Football Club is facing its biggest-ever battle - a fight for survival because of a major financial crisis. The situation is so grave, with the club £60,000 in the red, they have been forced to cancel payments to their players and management team. The club, members of the Banks's Brewery League Premier Division, is hoping to stay afloat with a further cash injection from the league sponsors - Banks's already having chipped in with a loan earlier this year.
