JUST in case Councillor Swinburn does not respond to A McMillan (Letters last week) I would like to let him know that at the refuse and recycling yard the council spends £6,000 a week on agency staff.
That’s £312 000 a year on non-directly employed staff. Without making an FOI request, frowned upon by Coun Swinburn, I cannot tell you about the council as a whole.
With reference to the pay of our chief executive I would like to quote Eric Pickles MP: “Any council that pays its chief executive more than £100,000 a year needs its head read.”
Seeing as how we are, as Coun Swinburn said, one of the smallest councils in the country, I would agree.
Having sat through the planning meeting debacle last week where the head of planning and governance released the wrong version of the CPG in the minutes, perhaps we need to get the whole lot looked at and see if we are getting value for money.
