THE recent PCC elections were a travesty of the democratic process.

Principal blame for this must attach to the Government, firstly for pushing the scheme through in the first place, and then for holding the elections in November and refusing to finance publicity shots from the candidates into voters’ homes.

Another cause for low turnout may have been the use of different venues for polling stations.

That was true for us, and there must have been some people who went to the usual place, having left their cards at home (as I did), found no-one there, and gave up.

Fortunately I passed the new polling station on the way home to get my card.
