ON Friday, October 12, vice chairman Katharine Barber opened the meeting introducing our speaker, Duncan James, who talked about the buildings of Bromyard.
Duncan carries out research into early historic buildings in Herefordshire as well as in Radnorshire, Shropshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.
The talk focused on buildings in Bromyard’s High Street and Broad Street where, with the aid of binoculars, it is fascinating to be able to spot timber frames peeping out of roof tops and high quality moulded brick, for example.
Duncan summed up by saying it had been a very exciting experience working on the project.
James Gilmer gave a vote of thanks, saying what a treat it had been to view the findings of the Bromyard project On Civic Society business, Katharine drew our attention to the numerous activities that we have available, which are listed in the October news sheet or on malverncivicsociety.org.uk and the fact that the comprehensive annual report is now available for members.
She also told us about a ChildLine quiz night that is to take place on Friday, November 30, at the Pear Tree Inn & Country Hotel, Smite, with tickets available from 01684 560219 including a hot supper meal and Esther Rantzen will also be making a special guest appearance.
