A MALVERN woman who was very well known in the building trade has died.

Betty Healey, who 84, had been a partner in the family firm of A E Probert for nearly 40 years.

The company, which has its headquarters in Worcester, is known for its work on period buildings and restoration.

Mrs Healey, who lived in Imperial Road, died in Worcestershire Royal Hospital following a stroke.

Proberts has a history stretching back a century and a half and has been in the Healey family for 90 years.

Mrs Healey joined her late husband Geoffrey as a partner 39 years ago and, despite her advancing years, continued an active involvement in the business, doing its accounts, administration and even serving at the reception counter.

“Mum cut her hours down to five days a week ten years ago, but continued working right until the end,” said her son David Healey. “She even had her sandwiches ready on the day she had her stroke.

“She was a real character and everyone knew her.”

Mrs Healey is survived by a son and daughter, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be at Christ Church, Avenue Road, Malvern, on Wednesday, November 21, at noon followed by interment at Great Malvern Cemetery.
