A MALVERN school has come up with a particularly tasty idea to boost its coffers.
For the last six months, the parent teacher association of St James’ CE Primary School in West Malvern has been hard at work compiling a fund-raising local cook book packed full of mouthwatering local recipes.
Children, families and teachers have all contributed to the book, which contains more than 100 recipes and illustrations for everything from soups and snacks to main meals, desserts and even a selection of fruity nonalcoholic cocktails.
It also includes a foragers guide to the year, giving a month-by-month guide to what wild food is available for free, as well as contributions from Transition Malvern Hills, Abundance Malvern and the West Malvern Community Orchard.
Clare Gilliam, who came up with the idea and edited the book, said the project had received a lot of support from local food and drinkrelated businesses.
“It’s more than just a cook book, it’s a real community book,” she said.
Headteacher Karen Surrall described the book, entitled A Taste of the Hills: Recipes From St James Primary School, as a wonderful collection of love, food and community.
“Every recipe reveals an enormous amount of affection, for the people who gave us the recipes and for those who enjoy them,” she said.
A private launch party is taking place at the school tonight before a public event at Malvern Book Co-operative, St Ann’s Road, at 11am tomorrow. All proceeds will be used by the PTA to support the school.
The book costs £6.99.
