THE sentencing of a man who took his wife’s car and drove while disqualified has been adjourned for reports to be prepared.
John McDonough, aged 41, of Britten Drive, Malvern, told police he took the car because he wanted to go out and kill himself after drinking lager and Bourbon.
McDonough – who lost his licence in March after he was caught drink-driving – admitted taking the car on Wednesday, October 31.
Mark Johnson, prosecuting, told magistrates that McDonough had 79mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
The legal limit is 35mcg.
Sophia Ali, defending, said McDonough had only started drinking over the past three years after suffering brain damage in a car crash and the death of his father two years ago.
She asked for sentencing be adjourned for a pre-sentence report and a psychiatric report to be prepared.
McDonough was released on conditional bail to reappear before magistrates on Friday, November 30.
