ANDREW Lloyd-Webber’s mega-musical Whistle Down the Wind will be given the Pepperpot Players treatment over four nights at Uptonupon- Seven’s Memorial Hall in Old Street.

Some tickets for the shows from Wednesday, October 31, to Saturday, November 3, are still available and cost £8.50 each from Upton Laundrette in New Street.

Director Kendra Yates said: “I am so excited we were granted rights for the Players to perform this outstanding production.”

It is based on the novel by Mary Hayley Bell and subsequent Richard Attenborough- produced film. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman, together with Patricia Knop and Gale Edwards, have reset the original story to Lousiana in 1959.

Whistle Down the Wind follows Swallow, a 15 year-old girl from the deep South who discovers a mysterious man hiding out in a barn and fervently believes that he is Jesus Christ. Swallow and her friends vow to protect the stranger from the townspeople who are determined to catch a fugitive hiding in their midst.

An emotive score combines hauntingly beautiful love songs and explosive rock music, contrasting the relentless influence of the modern world with the traditional values of the old days, as fantasy and reality collide. It’s a wonderful evening’s entertainment right on your doorstep and not to be missed.

Performances start at 7.30pm each night and there will be refreshments and raffle tickets on sale during the interval.

If you would like to become a patron of the Pepperpot Players, for £6 per annum, you will receive preferential early seat reservations and a free programme at all productions.
