THE Colwall Players will be staging Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats Of Loneliness by Anthony Neilson as their next production.
Neilson is recognised as one of the most extravagantly original talents working in British theatre.
Over the last 20 years he has established himself as a prolific playwright, achieving success on radio, in film and notably in the theatre, where his combination of wit, outrageousness, compassion and sheer theatrical daring has led to acclaimed productions at the Edinburgh Festival and the RSC.
Following a chance discovery of a scrap of manuscript dated 1881 about an extraordinary troupe of travelling performers, Neilson created the figure of the impresario Edward Gant and his company of freaks and fools.
But tonight is unlike any show that Gant has ever performed – tonight the show may not go on and then may never be performed again.
The Colwall Players production is directed by Lee Farley. Farley is always seeking for new ways in which to exploit the potential of the performance space.
His previous work in the Village Hall has included Skellig and last year’s acclaimed Kindertransport, which was performed as a traverse production.
Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness will be presented in Colwall village hall at 7.30pm on May 31, June 1 and 2. Tickets can be bought in advance from John Goodwin’s Colwall office on 01684 540300.
