THE award-winning Dylan Thomas: Return Journey is at Malvern Theatres on Tuesday.
The critically acclaimed show by Edinburgh Festival Fringe-First winner Bob Kingdom is a portrait of the troubled poet.
Bob plays Dylan himself, a man who wrestled with the psychological conflict between creative talent and self destructive impulses.
Bob was born in Cardiff in 1944 and like Dylan Thomas, he grew up in an Anglicised Welsh environment marked by tension between the two cultures. Also like Thomas, he was interested in words and language from an early age and as a small boy won literary competitions and took part in amateur dramatics.
As an adult, he established himself in advertising, writing copy and pleading guilty to a number of catch phrases and images from the 70s. He also did television voice overs, poetry readings and writing and performing radio comedy.
He has toured the show around the world and a video of Dylan Thomas: Return Journey, directed by Anthony Hopkins, was shown on British and American television.
Performances at Malvern are at 2pm and 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 and £14. Call 01684 892277.
