AUDITIONS will be held for actors to play the lead characters in a production of Hugh Whitemore’s The Best of Friends at Stanbrook Abbey in Callow End.
The play tells the story of Dame Laurentia McLachlan, a nun and Abbess of Stanbrook Abbey, who is buried there, and her unexpected friendship with Sir Sydney Cockerell, an inveterate letter writer and diarist, and George Bernard Shaw, a confirmed atheist as well as prolific playwright.
An actress is needed to play Dame Laurentia, who at the start of the play is aged 58, Sir Sydney, who is 57, and an actor who can produce an Irish accent to play Shaw as a 68-year-old.
The auditions will take place on Wednesday and Thursday at the abbey.
