100 YEARS AGO.

In the West Malvern Parish Magazine the Vicar (Rev A F Robson) announces that donations amounting to £139 1s 9d have been received or promised for the Churchyard Extension Fund. The Vicar writes: "Some progress has been made towards reaching the requisite sum of £150. Many generous gifts have been made."

50 YEARS AGO.

One of Malvern's oldest family businesses, Kendall's department store, Church Street , which has been established 110 years, has joined Macowards, the retail store group of Cardiff. Mr Gordon Thompson will continue as the local director. Since the war, the turnover at Kendall's has trebled and several new departments opened.

25 YEARS AGO.

The ten residents of Hughenden Hostel for the Mentally Handicapped have finally moved to their new home in Players Avenue just in time for Christmas. The move from the hostel to the community home, formerly two police houses, signals the beginning of a new way of life for the group. The residents are looking forward to helping put up the Christmas decorations.
