WORK is expected to start soon on refurbishment of West Malvern’s former retirement home Adelaide House for its proposed new use as a residential rehabilitation and retraining centre for ex-service personnel suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, as reported here in January.
Local residents should be able to learn much more detail at the Parish Council’s annual meeting at the Village Hall on May 12. The guest speaker will be David Hannon, Development Director of the Evesham-based social housing organisation Rooftop Housing, which is leading the project under the auspices of the Worcestershire Armed Forces Community Covenant.
The last of the winter season of Cricket Club quizzes will take place at the Brewers Arms tomorrow Saturday at 7.30pm, with Ian Clayton once again as quizmaster. Teams of four will be welcome to this event. These winter quizzes are valuable fundraisers for the club, which will soon be transferring its attention once more to the new cricket season. Rumours that England scouts will be at Mathon Park in search of new talent, following the national side’s disastrous winter, have not been confirmed!
There was a lively afternoons music at West Malvern Social Club on Sunday when BBC Hereford and Worcester’s ‘Introducing’ programme, with a live audience, made recordings of four bands for future transmission. First up was the very local group Flatworld, two of whose members - leader Neil Poulter and percussionist Eric Aston (who also pulls pints at the Brewers) live in West Malvern. Their brand of energetic East European-derived dance music has earned them a strong following in Hereford and Worcester as well as neighbouring counties. The transmission date of Sunday’s recording is not yet known, but Andrew Marston’s programme goes out every Saturday at 8pm, so if you listen then you should catch them within the next few weeks. There will be another chance to hear Flatworld performing in West Malvern at WestFest in July.
