ORGANISERS of Malvern’s Christmas celebrations have released full details of what to expect when the town’s festive lights are switched on.
On Saturday, December 4, Church Street and Abbey Road will be closed off from 10am until 7pm to accommodate a huge variety of entertainment for all ages.
There will be an arts and crafts markets in the Priory church grounds, and food markets in Abbey Road from 9am, and a victorian ride and candy floss stall in the grounds of Malvern Library from 10am.
A stage at Belle Vue Island will see performances from the likes of The Chase School Band and Malvern St James Junior Choir, while groups such as Dance in Motion and the Appleyard Dancers will give workshops and demonstrations in various town centre locations.
There will be a mobile farm at Malvern Library, and face painting and a circus skills show in the grounds at Malvern Priory.
For the more adventurous there will be a mobile climbing wall in Abbey Road and a ‘bungee basketball run’ outside Iceland, in Church Street.
At 5.15pm a lantern parade and procession featuring a samba band, Christmas tree stilt walkers and dancers from Club Dance UK will leave the Grange Road car park and head up Church Street to Belle Vue Island.
Here, at 5.30pm, the town’s Christmas lights will be switched on by Malvern Town Council chairman Paul Tuthill and Malvern Theatres panto star Toyah Wilcox - who will get the crowds in the festive mood by singing Christmas songs.
The festive fun does not end there, with The Malvern Singers performing in the Priory at 5.45pm, and Malvern Town Council’s Chairman’s Charity Carols concert in St Edmund’s Hall at 6.15pm.
