A MAN was kicked in the head and punched on the floor in an alleged group attack in Malvern.

An arrest has been made for attempted grievous bodily harm after the alleged attack outside a Malvern shop - with a knife spotted at the scene.

It happened outside the One Stop Shop in Pickersleigh Road in Malvern at 6.55pm on Wednesday, August 16.

A man aged 20 has been arrested and bailed in connection with the alleged attack on the 26-year-old victim.

Three people are believed to have been involved in the alleged attack which involved the victim being punched and kicked while on the ground.

"Thankfully the victim suffered minor injuries," said a force spokesman.

A weapon was spotted in the location of the group attack outside Malvern One Stop although officers stress it was not used in the assault itself.

One suspect has been arrested and investigations are underway by West Mercia Police to find the other two suspects. Witnesses are also being sought to assist the ongoing, active investigation. 

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "The victim was punched and kicked in the head while on the floor. Somebody was seen carrying a knife."

Although a knife was identified, officers say it was not used in the attack itself.

"A knife was seen in the location of the offence but not used," said a spokesperson for the Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Team, part of West Mercia Police. 

West Mercia Police is looking for witnesses in relation to the attack. Those who may wish to give information can contact the force on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 22/77366/23. The officer in the case is DC James Potter.
