A CHILD was spotted driving dangerously on a pit bike sparking fears for safety.

Police are now carrying out patrols to find the child who was seen in Brookfarm Drive, Malvern.

Officers received reports of the youngster riding around the area dangerously on the bike and without a helmet.

Pit bikes are small recreation, stunt or motocross-style-racing motorcycles, which are not road legal.

For a bike to be road worthy, it must be equipped with the appropriate safety equipment such as lights, mirrors and indicators.

Riders must also have insurance, tax and MOT.

Despite the reports, police were not able to trace the child, but the Pickersleigh and Chase Safer Neighbourhood Team said it will be increasing high-visibility patrols of the road.

PCSO Rebecca Bullock said: "If you are seen to be riding a motor-propelled vehicle in a way that causes alarm distress or annoyance, the bike can be seized by police.

"Riding on a public road without a licence or insurance is also an offence which you can be prosecuted for. "
