WEST Worcestershire's MP has urged local people to have their say on long awaited plans to dual Carrington Bridge.
The Worcester News revealed a year ago that the plans to dual the congested bridge had been launched, with council chiefs hoping work on the £70 million revamp can begin in 2019.
The work would involve enlarging the bridge and road, between the Ketch and Powick islands, and upgrading the A4440 Southern Link Road.
A bid for £70 million is being considered by the Department for Transport but the plans have been released to the public to allow local people to make comments.
Worcestershire County Council is asking people to look at the plans and comment on the proposals through a dedicated email address, wts@worcestershire.gov.uk.
West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has been lobbying for the road since she was first elected to Parliament in 2010, visiting the public exhibition in Malvern, where the plans were put on display.
“I have been a vigorous supporter of this project which will reduce journey times for local commuters and reduce some of the serious traffic pinch-points which affect road-users at all times of the day," the MP said.
“I have written to a succession of Transport Secretaries in support of this bid and hope that we will hear some positive news very soon.
“I will be interested to see more detail on the plan and particularly welcome the plans for improved cycle routes which will mean more people can travel safely to and from the Malvern Hills and beyond.
“I do urge people to have a look themselves and make sure that the plans are fully-scrutinised so we get a road improvement project which we can all support.”
