DROITWICH traders have enjoyed jingle tills in the run up to Christmas and into the sales season, with several traders reporting better till action than this time last year.

Morrisons on Covercroft Road said they had been "very busy", with no sign of a slow down at the check-outs on Boxing Day, Sunday and on Bank Holiday Monday too.

Duty manager, Matt Dunkers said: "Pound for pound, I would say December 23 and Christmas Eve were the busiest. We have been very busy - busier than last year."

Speaking on Bank Holiday Monday, Mr Dunkers said: "We are still very busy. People have been going for everything; filling up big trolleys."

It was a similar story at Holland and Barrett at St Andrew's Square.

And here too, it seems as if Christmas Eve was a real till ringer.

A spokesman said: "Christmas Eve was very busy for us, with people buying nuts and seeds and ginger for Christmas, and also vitamin C, for those winter colds."

New Look, also on St Andrew's Square, was reporting steady trade, with shoppers before and after Christmas making a beeline for ladieswear, jewellery, footwear and accessories.

A spokesman said: "We have been fairly busy - not as busy as last year, but steady."

Boxing Day in particular was a busy time at New Look, with Bank Holiday Monday being not quite so busy - a situation which other Droitwich traders were reporting.

But retailers certainly have no complaints about the loyalty of local shoppers.

Jim Fincher of Brown and Fincher electronic retail shop in the High Street said: "It was manic before Christmas; superb business, and no trouble at all.

"We were selling right across the range, with the new curved televisions being particularly popular, and the Panasonic televisions."

Mr Fincher added: "We have been here 35 years, and we have a very good customer base."
