A FUN day at a Malvern church raised more than £600 towards setting up a new centre for children with special needs in the town.

The event was organised by What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful, which was founded by Malvern mum Kim Philpotts in 2013.

The fun day, at St Mary's Church, Sherrards Green, was opened by Worcestershire County Council chairman Ian Hopwood, and featured a bouncy castle, crazy golf and many other attractions,

Mrs Philpotts said: "Cllr Hopwood has been a huge support to us and we're grateful to him for coming to open the fun day.

"He even joined in playing crazy golf with the children. He has donated in the past from his ward funds to buy us a trailer to transport all the equipment around. It is lovely to have someone who is very supportive to the group it means a lot.

"It was a fab day all round, and we raised £632, which was an amazing amount for three hours."

Mrs Philpotts wants to raise £13,000 to secure a building for the group, which currently meets at the Octagon Centre in Malvern.

She has a site in the centre of Malvern in mind, but needs money to rent it for a year and help pay the business rates.

"We've now got £4,000, and we love to put on events for the local community, so we hope people will support our next event, which is a picnic party on Sunday, July 5, at the Newtown Club at Link Top," she said.

The event is from noon to 4pm, and will include a bouncy castle, ball pool and much else besides.
