A group of experts have banded together to make Malvern a "beacon" for change when it comes to tackling climate change and lowering fossil fuel consumption.

Julian Roskams, David Mcann, of Energy Solutions Malvern, Will Tooby, director of The Fold, Jill Terry, trustee of Malvern Cube and Robin Coates, of Transition Malvern Hills, have united to create a group called Chance 4 Change: Low Carbon Malvern.

The group is aiming to raise public awareness on the issue of climate change, and what steps people can take to reduce their fossil fuel consumption.

Miss Terry said: "We want to create a movement in Malvern, for the town to be a beacon for change for others to follow.

"Climate change is not something that is discussed as much as it should be, so something needs to change. There can be no more burying heads in sand over the issue.

"This will effect our children and our children's children. We must address what we are currently doing."

Mr Mcann says there are people who want to contribute to tackling the problem, but don't know how.

He said: "A lot of people would like to do more to help, and we hope to inform them of how they can do that.

"There are a number of things people can do to generate their own energy, which would all contribute to the reduced use of fossil fuels."

Installing solar panels to generate energy, switching to more cost-effective heating options and buying locally sourced, organic products are some of the ways in which fossil fuel consumption can be reduced, and could also result in lower energy prices.

Chance 4 Change: Low Carbon Malvern is hoping to create an online forum in the future, so people can discuss what they are doing to help the environment, and swap tips and advice with each other.

The experts are also set to hold an information event on the subject next month.

It will be held at Malvern Cube, and is scheduled to go ahead on Saturday, May 16, from 10am until 12pm.

It is free to attend.

It is the Cube which will be the main hub for the group too.
